Fall in passenger numbers
London Gatwick Airport, the busiest airport in UK has seen a fall in the passenger traffic during the month of June, when compared with the same period a year before.
The travel hub has seen a year on year decrease of nearly 0.8% because of the capacity reduction in the services to both Ireland and North Atlantic markets.
A rise of 6.2% of growth was observed on the long haul routes which are more popular with the Gatwick airport travelers along with a growing demand for the flights to Africa and Middle East. But the traffic fell by -13.2% at the North Atlantic year on year, by -14.9% on Irish routes with a domestic traffic growth by 2.4%.
European scheduled and European charter, the biggest markets of Gatwick remained static against the previous year as Gatwick was on its peak summer time. Passenger traffic hit 31.7 million and down by -2.6% on the previous corresponding year in a rolling 12 month period to June 2010.
Gatwick airport in the beginning of this month has announced the creation of new service to Palma Majorca from Monarch Airlines which is due to start this weekend. Between the London travel hub and the Spanish holiday destinations, three flights will be operated a week from tomorrow, that is from July 17 and the seats are on sale from £68 for a return ticket including taxes.
